OEM successor vs compatible replacement
Understand what a successor record proves and what still needs checking.
An official successor answers a narrow question
An OEM catalog can identify the order code that succeeds an older product. Protonym records that relationship with the source and review date.
For example, Siemens lists 6ES7134-6HD01-0BA1 for 6ES7134-6HD00-0BA1. That establishes an official successor, not a verified installation in your machine.
Compatibility depends on the installation
Check electrical ratings, terminals, dimensions, firmware, and the application requirements. A verified relationship is not a completed compatibility checklist.
Sensor variants need particular care. OMRON distinguishes NPN and PNP E3Z models and several sensing methods. Treat a different suffix as a different candidate until the required specifications are confirmed.
Ask for evidence, then request research
Ask which source supports the proposed part number and which installation checks have been completed. Keep unknowns visible.
If no verified alternative exists, submit the original number, nameplate, wiring information, and machine model for replacement research. Do not interpret a research request as a compatibility approval.
